You might want to take a look at Endeca -- it provides "guided navigation" (a form of faceted search) and can be integrated into a number of content management systems. (It actually has a lightweight CMS of its own).

There is also an open-source project called solr, which is based on lucene, that also provides some faceted search.

Just like outside the organisation, there are probably 20% contributors and 80% consumers of the information, don't you think?
The next question: what are the most valuable web 2.0 tools an organisation can implement on their intranet?
Customisable dashboard in iGoogle style where you feature the corporate tools you already use, such as your CRM system.
Wiki, Forum...how would you use bookmarks? There is a bit of complexity, isn't there?

I agree with all of your comments except regarding the lack of a close -- it's not a recruitment site, it's an advertisement for their product (as well as an exercise in public consciousness-raising). The message is "Trains are great, buy ours," not "Come work for us." And I think that anyone who's in the market for a few trains knows very well how to get in touch with Bombardier.

I think a good intranet would go a long way in helping companies get out of the silo mentality.

Even a single tag cloud might help an organization resolve issues that contributing to employee turnover.

"...What do a 19th century Italian economist who accidentally defined a pseudo-law of nature, a post World War II American statistician who is responsible for today’s dominance by Japanese car manufacturers, and the 80’s poster boy for glam rock Boy George, have to do with Web 2.0"

lol on that lead-in, that'll get attention, that's for sure.

I hope part of your presentation includes, even if it's just a logo on your presentation, mention of OpenID, OAuth, or even better Data Portability.

In my experience CEO types are scared of OpenID and OAuth because they associate user data with cash. It'd be great if you would include some soothing words that OpenID and OAuth are the means for more users, an order of a magnitude more, and that's what's important.

Just a suggestion.

you might want to illustrate this with an example.

IE - it is very common for employers to google job candidates and review their blog and whatever profile information may be online.

So it makes sense that a client would do a search on a vendor using discussion forums etc.

I like this - very 'big picture' thinking - however, it may be risky to take that approach with an RFP - without the face to face communication people may not take the time to listen to what you have to say.

I guess a lot depends on the quality of your prose ;-)
